Introduction to Fabrics

Bamboo Charcoal

Bamboo fabrics are soft, non-irritating and hypoallergenic because of the

smooth and round structure of the fibres.

Bamboo is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal because of a unique

bacteriostatis agent called "bamboo kun" which also helps bamboo resist

harbouring odours. Bamboo is highly absorbent and wicks water away from

the body 3 to 4 times faster than cotton. The unique natural fiber structure

makes bamboo fabrics more breathable and thermal regulating than

cotton, hemp, wool or synthetic fabrics.

Bamboo is considered the latest in high-tech fabrics.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural product which when spun into fabric is soft and easy to

handle and features hypoallergenic and anti static properties. Cotton is also

breathable and comfortable against the skin. The quality of cotton is

defined by the length, fineness and strength of the fiber. The highest quality

cotton comes from varieties that produce long-staple fibers such as

Pima and Egyptian. Cotton has a tendency to wrinkle very easily, so

cotton/polyester blends are popular.

Wool

Wool is a renewable, natural fibre. Wool fibres have crimps or curls that

create pockets and give the wool a spongy feel and create insulation.

Wool is washable, but will shrink if improperly washed. Wool offers a unique

combination of being lightweight and an excellent insulator. It is durable,

resistant to wrinkles, dirt and flame.

Modal

Modal is a cellulose fibre made by spinning reconstituted cellulose from

beech trees. Textiles made from Modal are resistant to shrinkage and fading.

They are smooth and soft, more so than mercerized cotton, to the point where

mineral deposits from hard water do not stick to the fabric surface. Modal fabrics

should be washed at lower temperatures and ironed after washing.

Polyester

Polyester is a man-made product and is an extremely strong and durable

material. Polyester is resistant to stretching, shrinkage and is quick drying.

Polyester fabrics are very easy to care for. Polyester is often used as a blend

with other fabrics (such as cotton) to lend wrinkle resistance.

Teflon Treatments

TeflonĀ® fabric protector provides durable, long-lasting protection against

oil and water-based stains, dust and dry soil. Fabrics with TeflonĀ® stay

looking newer longer, and are easier to care for. All without impacting the

look, touch, feel, colour or breathability of the fabric.

Dri-Sport

Dri-Sport, Cool-Mesh and Breezeway are terms used to described a

technical polyester fabric with superior mositure wicking qualities.

Moisture wicking refers to the ability of a fabric to draw perspiration away

from the body for rapid evaproation, keeping you dry and at a balanced

temperature. These fabrics offer a range of UV protection and combine a

soft feel and drape with excellent colour and shape retention.
